Keeping with the MDG targets of reducing infant mortality and improving maternal health care and increasing the proportion of population using improved sanitation facility and improved drinking-water source, the current initiative has been undertaken within the scope of corporate social responsibility of CESC Limited. The project titled ‘Suswasthya’ focuses on assessment of needs of the community in respect of deficits in the levels of existing health services, prevalent knowledge, behavior and practice on health and hygiene related issues. Suitable awareness generation intervention designs have been developed to improve health seeking behavior in the marginalized communities. Community Health Volunteers are trained and capacitated on dissemination of information related to access of health care services and propagation of preventive public health practices thereby strengthening the overall health scenario of the project area which covers 11 vulnerable Wards of Kamarhati Municipality, North 24 Parganas.
